HSV 1 in mouth and genitals?

I have had oral herpes in my mouth for as long as I can remember and have outbreaks 1-4 times a year. However, now I have a girlfriend who contracted oral herpes on her genitalia before me and has had only one outbreak. We have had protected sex so far, but would want to start the pills instead of using a condom.

My question is, can I catch oral herpes from her genitals to mine, if we have sex without a condom and she does not have any sores at the moment. In other words, do I already have an immunity against contracting HSV 1 in my genital area?

I think you mean hsv, not hpv correct?

your gf can get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what her status is. the gum clinics don't seem to offer it but it's easily available from private providers in the UK. She'll just need to pay out of pocket for it.

Is there a reliable way to test, whether the hpv is type 1 or 2, if my girlfriend does not have an outbreak again? The doctors say, there isn't and that it doesn't matter, but I beg to differ, as I don't want to contract HPV 2, in case she actually has it.

gardasil is available in the UK. it's for hpv prevention. certainly worth talking about with your partner.

make sure you were both properly tested for std's - most people are not .

Thank you grace for your swift answer.

Neither of us has any other STDs or HSV 2 for that matter. I don't think I have had a gardasil shot. I have never heard of it so it might not be available or advised in my country.

you both have hsv1 so it's not an issue. just avoid sex anytime she has anything going on genitally to err on the side of caution.

have you both been tested for other std's?

have you both had your gardasil shots?

have you been tested for hsv2?
