HSV-1 on genitals

My boyfriend gave me HSV-1 on my genitals through oral sex when he had asymptomatic viral shedding. He has had problems with cold sores for much of his life, and I just recently was infected. Is it still possible for him to get HSV-1 on his genitals from me when I have asymptomatic viral shedding or is he only susceptible to getting it in the form of cold sores?

his oral hsv1 will give him significant protection from contracting hsv1 genitally from you. we recommend to err on the side of caution and when you have genital symptoms, avoid sex but other than that, no precautions to take.  since you have hsv1 genitally, recurrences should be few and far between over all and this really shouldn't affect your sex life too much.

did you both have full std testing to make sure that neither of you have anything else too?
