HSV-1 or chancroid?

i had sex with a new partner 5 days ago.  He has never experienced any symptoms of Herpes and has not had sex with anyone else for over 4 months.  I recently got out of a marriage where i had no sexual contact with my husband for over 6 months.  Two days ago i noticed painful lesions in the vaginal area that looked like 2 little ulcers.  I have looked at pictures online and they do not look like any of the photos of herpes but rather like Chancroid.  When I went to the gyno today she took cultures but told me that do to the high level of pain that she feels I have developed herpes from somewhere.  She further comented that they were most likely HSV-1 since no one I had been with would have had HSV-2. Any opinions?  From what i have been able to see online it looks like herpes lesions are usually scabby or ***** and occur in clusters with blisters for a few days before hand.  i had none of this- even now the lesions are painful but not *****, no scabs and if there were blisters they were so short-lived that i never saw or felt them.

I 100% agree with Jessie, opps, I mean Grace :). Herpes seems to be the culprit here.

Pretty much the pictures you see online aren't "typical" for most folks.

It's far more likely that you have herpes than chancroid - especially if you are in the US or canada.  both you and your partner need type specific herpes igg blood tests done this week to try to figure out who has what so you can decide where to go from here.
