the herpes virus does require heat and friction to transmit. it's not like the common cold and flu viruses.

From WebMD:
What Causes Herpes Infections and Outbreaks?
Herpes simplex type 1, which is transmitted through oral secretions or sores on the skin, can be spread through kissing or sharing objects such as toothbrushes or eating utensils. In general, a person can only get herpes type 2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. It is important to know that both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be spread even if sores are not present.
Most people acquire it when a child. See website below. It states that you can also get HSV 1 when using a towel and other items.

To my knowledge,Infectious diseases or infectious agents such as viruses or bacteria don't have to have heat and friction to transfer. I would like the article you got that from. It would interest me. For example, you can get TB from someone coughing but you have to be in close contact and in the room for a while, it is an infectious bacteria (not contagious). If there is virus that is still "live" on a "phomite" such as a door knob or a glass or pencil you can pick up a virus that is how flu and cold are spread in addition to sneezes and coughs etc. although these are contagious.
thanks,

You didn't get it from the drink. The virus needs heat and friction for transfer. Just like you get from the those romantic kisses.
Probably not as likely if they didn't have a cold sore. But about 80-90% or more of people have HSV I. I happen to have it. I got it from drinking after someone I think or maybe I kissed someone. Not to scare you but I dont' know how I got it as I got it when I was 16 or so and had kissed about 3-4 guys and no sex of any kind. I drank after a girl who offered me her juice and she was very permiscuous. So, I think I got it from her even though she didn't have a cold sore. I have to put Zovirax cream on it. My husband has never had a cold sore and he has kissed me with and without cold sores. Sorry it is a lousy virus but they all are. Some are a lot worse. Luckily, since most people have them they can get mad at you for giving it to them when they already have the antibody themselves. You can get tested again but I would wait about 2-4 weeks.
It was a low risk the real risk is when you make those long romantic type kisses.
