HSV-1

i was diagnosed with HSV-1 in june of 2010. i have searched and searched and searched for some advice and information about the herpes virus yet none of it makes sence to me so maybe you can help me. so my question is if i have genital herpes HSV-1 and my partner performs oral sex can he get oral herpes? ive read alot of things about how if i am diagnosed with HSV-1 that it cannot or is very likely to be transmitted to my partners genitals, is this true? what im getting at here is am i able to have unprotected sex with my partner if i have HSV-1 and not HSV-2 without spreding it to him???

hsv1 genitally doesn't reoccur very often and sheds infrequently.  your odds of transmitting it to a partner are low in general regardless of if it's oral sex or genital sex. always avoid sex anytime you have anything going on genitally of course.

has your partner been tested to know their status?
