HSV-1

I was recently diagnosed with HSV-1 genital. I've been with my husband for almost 18 years, but he did cheat about 10 years ago. So, we were thinking I may have contracted it before we were together. So, I gave him oral and the next day my mouth started burning and is still burning after a week. And my mouth is also swollen. Is it possible he contracted it 10 years ago and I somehow avoided it all these years? or has he recently contracted it and now has given it to me? Because I know I haven't been unfaithful to him.

no real way to tell at this point if you had hsv1 genitally previously and this was just a recurrence or not.

sounds like your mouth symptoms might be a different virus and not herpes from the timeline of things. too late at this point to figure it out to be honest.

ok let me give you a timeline. I had sex with my husband around April 27th, genital-genital only. Thought I had a bug bite down there May 11th. By May 18th I went to the Dr b/c I was hurting real bad. Had oral sex with my husband, me performing on him the same day. We had no sexual contact whatsoever between Apr. 27th and May 18th. May 19th, my mouth was burning and still is and now forming blisters in my mouth. May 21st found out I have HSV-1 "down there". So, the last 2 times I've had sexual contact with my husband of 18 years I've contracted herpes. Two different times, two different places. Is it possible he has had this for 10 years and I've avoided it? and if so, why would I all of a sudden contract it the last two times we've had sexual contact?

if you had a lesion culture genitally that was hsv1 +, no real reason for follow up blood work.  did your mouth symptoms occur around the same time as the genital symptoms?

statistically 1 out of every 2-3 of us has hsv1 orally whether we get obvious cold sores or not. it's incredibly common and you can be together for a long time before it's transmitted to a person, if ever transmitted even.

When I was diagnosed with hsv2 I thought my BF of 4 years gave it to me. When his doctor said he didn't have it, I was confused because I'd never had an outbreak, or had sex with anyone else in those 4 years. My doctor told me I could have contracted hsv2 as many as 10 years ago and just didn't know it. The doc said it can lie dormant in a person's body without them ever knowing.

Neither one of us has ever had a cold sore and I basically found out I had HSV-1 because I had what I thought was a bug bite near my rear end, then thought I just had a rash of some sort. Went to the Dr. and she did a swab on one of my sores. And this all happened a week ago.  I also went to the Dr. yesterday and they have taken blood to do the antibody testing. I won't find out the results of them for probably a week.

what testing was done to diagnose you as having hsv1?
