So, 12/20 I had an STD panel done... negative for everything except HSV2.
igg - 1.51
On 1/20 I retested for herpes only. Again, negative for HSV1, 1.25 on HSV2.
The phone 'consultation' from the doctor made it sound like it was a certain thing. (I ordered the test online - at this point I'll call it a test mill.)
I've seen indications on here that this is likely a false positive and that there are different probabilities of it being a false positive associated with different numbers in the low positive range. Is there a link where I can look at those numbers?
Second... If it is positive, I am trying to figure out when/who I acquired it from.
(Welcome to the land of TMI.)
1. Partner over 15 years ago (not monogamous)
2a. Partner over 15 years ago, tested negative sometime after we were together (not monogamous)
3. Future ex-Husband (started as not monogamous, were monogamous for over a decade, opened up the relationship in late 2008. His supposedly only partner before we separated has (to my imperfect knowledge) tested negative for STDs (not sure if HSV was specifically checked). I don't think they had sex
drive isn't all that strong.]
2b. Repartner. Had tested positive 1 and 2, retested with a different test and was negative for 2. (not monogamous) I don't think he has been retested recently (since we started seeing each other again).
4. New partner - probably overdue, but it seemed like a good reason to get tested. He got tested a week after me and was negative across the board.
your hsv2 igg is a low positive and you definitely need a herpes WB to confirm it so you can know if you really have it or not.
no way to know when you might've contracted it if you really do have it since most folks never get tested for it and just assume that they do. What is important to know is your status and that of any partners you have so you can make educated decisions about what precautions to take together.

So, finally got back the WB results...
Negative for both.
For others who might come across this and don't want to find a physician or go through their own...
I got this test done through a local Urgent Care clinic. I saw a nurse for the drawing of blood.
Make sure that they use Quest diagnostics for testing.
test #34534
It was expensive doing it this way ($255), but better than having an ambiguous result hanging over my head. (And really, I've had enough of doctors for quite a while.)
The 'doctor' who did my 'consultation' through the site that I had gotten the original test from was firmly convinced that I had HSV based on 1. The results above 2. More than one outbreak of shingles (herpes zoster).
There are people who are convinced that recurrent shingles cannot happen so it *must* be HSV. Yes, I am under 40. Yes, I have had more than one shingles outbreak. Yes, it changed sides. But no, I've never had a cold sore or genital sore.
Two things *I* note from this...
1. Skip the igg and go for the western blot
2. A reminder that, whenever I encounter an alarmist doctor, I should leave. Quickly.
(I once had a doctor tell me that I likely would need a bone marrow test. He came back 15 minutes later to say that the latest results were fine. "No worries." What those adverse results really meant? That I should drink more water.)
