HSV-2?

Got some blisters under my lips (not on the lip though) about two weeks ago. Went to the doctor and did a viral culture and the result came back as HSV 2+. I was shocked since I have never had unprotected sex except with my current partner who has tested several times(in years) for HSV2 and all came back negative but HSV1 as positive. Moreover, I have never had any similar outbreaks either orally or in genital area.

Therefore, after 9 days after the outbreak, I went back to my doctor and asked for blood test for STD as well as HerpesSelect test. Confusingly, the result came back today with HSV1  positive and HSV2 negative. Now I am really confused about how to interpret the result. I mean what is the probability that 1.)my partner and I both have not had any genital outbreak for 4.5 years and 2.) my first outbreak in under the lips (cultured as HSV2) but not genital 3.) all of my partner's blood test results are HSV2 negative and 4) my blood test came back as HSV2 negative and HSV1 positive?

My question is that is it too early to do the HerpesSelect test? That is, I am not sure if 9 days after outbreak will give high enough antibody to be detected.

Yes,  my partner just got the most recent HerpesSelect result back this Monday (the test was done last week) and the result is HSV-1 positive and HSV-2 negative (my partner doesn't remember the igG levels though). My HerpesSelect result also came back with HSV1 postive( 4.XX) and HSV2 negative( I was told no numbers for this at all!). I was a little bit surprised because I don't know I have HSV1 since I can not remember any outbreaks at all except the one diagnozed as HSV2 by culture two weeks ago.

And no my partner has not had sex with anyone else in these 4.5 years. Therefore, I don't know how to interpret the results. I guess the only thing I can do is wait.

I'd confirm that indeed your partner was being tested with herpes igg blood tests. Also had your partner had their last herpes igg blood test at least 3 months after the last time they had had sex with anyone else?

I'd also consider if these symptoms reoccur, getting them recultured to see if by chance it really is hsv1 and just typed wrong by the lab too.
