HSV 2

If I had a positive Igm HSV test of level 1.7 and a negative Igg when should I retest to see if I truly have HSV2? My partner was test and he is also neg on the HSV 2 but he came back with an Igg of 1.18. Neither of us have symptoms of any kind. I was given a Herpes test because I was complaining of a sore tongue and ear after about 5 days I developed some sort of lesion about 4cm. It has been about one month since the first test I took and the symptons appeared and I still have the lesion which is at the base of my tongue and ear pain (I was told it was a taste bud but it does not look like any of the other taste buds) .  Please help me?

Thank you Grace. Today I went to the doctor to have him look at my tongue and my test results. He said that everything he looked at was normal and does not at all look like Herpes as the other doctors suggested. He asked me to repeat my test just to make sure. I showed him my results with the positive 1.7 Igm for HSV2 and the negative .07 HSV 2. I am going to wait for the results.

Once again thank you for your support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice.

your providers are practicing malpractice by diagnosing you on a + igm for herpes. you might want to point that out to them and encourage them to read the 2010 herpes cdc guidelines to update their information so that they are best serving their patients as well as protecting themselves!!!

Thank you for you help Grace. I am driving my partner crazy with this. My 2 doctors don't want to order another test because they said the IGM is positive so I have set up an appointment with another doctor. And I am going to follow up with another ENT Because I know there is something wrong with my tongue. I went to the dentist and he put me on antibiotics and some tablets that I have to let dissolve in my mouth I believe for fungus. I appreciate your advice. I am all alone dealing with this matter and it is effecting my self esteem.

Thank you so very much

your partner isn't + for hsv2. you also tested negative for it. no reason to retest and no reason to think you have hsv2 orally.

sounds like you need a consult from a different ENT doc!

My partners Igg HSV1 was 1.18 my HSV 1 Igg was .65.
My ENT said she doesn't know what the lesion is either she also said a swollen taste bud. She was so set the I have HSV 2 that nothing I said mattered about the sore tongue and ear. Both docs just gave me Valtrex and said it would go away. Well, it didn't and a month later it is still there with the pain.

When do you suggest I retest for HSV 2?

the herpes igm test is a very flawed test. we don't recommend its use on adults. having a + igm result is pretty much meaingless.

was your partners hsv1 igg 1.18?

what was your hsv1 igg?

I'd follow up with an ENT specialist at this point if your regular provider isn't able to figure out what is going on in your mouth. It's not likely to be herpes related so consider it a separate issue .
