HSV IgM 1 and 2 combo test positive?

I had unprotected sex 4 weeks ago for the first time with a partner who was showing no visible outbreaks (and also confirmed that he had been tested and was clean - I was his first partner after his 3 year relationship in which his girlfriend had been tested and was clean too).  I had a cold a few days after the unprotected sex and actually just came down with what I think is the flu 2 days ago... I've had no lesions or other reasons to think I had contracted an STD, but my annual physical was october 12, so I went ahead and had a full STD panel done.  My herpes test results came back as follows:
dyn_HSV-2 IgG <0.91
dyn_HSV-1 IgG <0.91
dyn_HSV IgM 1 and 2 Combo 1.16

My doctor wrote in the letter with the test results that it looked like I had been recently exposed to herpes and that I should be retested in 6 months.  Obviously, this is terrifying to me so I'm trying to understand the implications of these results better.  I know that herpes can also make you sick, similar to having a cold/flu...although I've had no lesions, do these recent bouts of sickness point toward the possibility of being infected?  Or could the fact that I was sick with a virus just prior to having the test have influenced the results?  I'm also seeing some posts on here regarding the lack of reliability on the IgM test.  Should I go request a different test immediately?  Or wait 6 (long) months to have this settled.  Is this something I should bring up with him immediately and recommend that he get tested?  Or should I wait until I have more info.

Thanks...lots of questions, I know...just scared.

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394 ;  this is a prior post by HHH that better explains why the herpes igm test is a flawed test and shouldn't be used.

You can repeat your igg in 3 months to see what it shows. no need to wait 6 months.

encourage your provider to update their info on herpes testing too next time you are there.
