HSV IgM AB SCREEN DETECTED A

HSV IgM AB SCREEN DETECTED A

My doctor ran two tests two weeks apart.  He really didn't know how to explain the results and was hoping I could get a better analysis.  I do not understand if I tested positive for Herpes or not?  I have had no soars or signs of Herpes.  I did have unprotected sex two months ago and tested negative for all other infectious diseases.  Can you please help me with this second test result.

This assay is type specific and will differentiate between

HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections. A single positive result only

indicates previous immunologic exposure and the level of

antibody response may not be used to determine active

infection or disease stage. The test should be repeated in

4-6 weeks when negative or equivocal results are obtained in

           suspected early herpes simplex disease.

The performance of this assay has not been established for

pediatric populations, for neonatal screening,or for the

           testing of immunocompromised patients.

           Interpretation: Negative

This test does not distinguish between HSV 1 and

HSV 2. A positive HSV IgM may indicate primary or

reactivated infection. IgM antibody can persist 12+

months after primary infection. Cross reactions

occur with varicella zoster, CMV and EBV. Herpes

Simplex Virus 1 and 2 IgG, type specific antibody

(HerpeSelect), helps confirm and differentiate prior

infection with HSV 1 or HSV 2.

all we need posted is the actual numeric results. you didn't have to post all the other stuff.

you are negative for hsv1 and hsv2 both. testing at the 2 month mark was a little early but odds are you don't really have hsv2 from the encounter in question.
