HSV Test Results

I asked a question a while back about some cracks in my scrotum that would get irritated in the same spot every once in awhile.  This happened after I had a sexual encounter with a girl a year or so ago.  I got worried this could be HSV-2 and you suggested to get tested for piece of mind so I went ahead and got a test for both.  I took an IGG Herpeselect test for both HSV-1 and HSV-2.  My results are for the HSV-1 = .89 and HSV-2 = .09.  I am clearly negative on the HSV-2 result correct?  I am a bit worried about the HSV-1 test that these cracks could be HSV-1?  Is this possible?  I have never had a cold sore on my lip or anything thats why it has me a bit worried.  Also, do you suggest any other tests for STD's? Thanks for this forum it helps out alot and led me to get tested.

If you do have HSV 1 infection, it could be oral or genital, there is no way to know for certain unless you get a swabbable symptom in either location.  You can get a western blot for herpes through Quest labs, they will send it to the University of Washington.

How can I arrange to get that?  Can I get the forms through you and go to a testing clinic such as Quest?  Should I go to a Planned Parenthood and ask for a western blot?  Thanks.

I agree that your HSV 1 is a little high for a negative.  I think I would advise a western blot for you, to get clearer on your HSV 1 status.  If you are HSV 1 positive, it certainly doesn't mean that your HSV 1 infection is genital.  Can you arrange to get a western blot?  Let me know how I can help.
