HSV Western Blot Testing

Thanks--just one last follow up question.  From reading various posts--seems like some providers 1) aren't familiar with WB, 2) don't know how to order it, or 3) are just plain ignorant in ordering the test for you.  I'm from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area--do you have any recommended providers there that I can go to where I won't have to deal with all the push-back?  Also--is there an online testing service where I can order this?

No online testing providers usually don't do the WB testing for you.

Find a provider or ask your regular provider if they use quest labs.  If so we can give you the quest labs code to request the test with all your provider has to do is follow the quest labs for the HSV (not HIV) and it's easy they talk to the UofW and take care of the blood.

Thanks.  Also--my doctor suggested that I do the Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (IgG) Inhibition, ELISA as a confirmation test.  Is this as good as the WB?  Obviously, I've been reading that the WB is the gold standard---but I've also ready this Inhibition test would do the same thing.....no?

No.  The Inhibition does work differently but is not close to the WB.  One should use the WB as a means of confirmatory testing for HSV.  Get the WB .
