HSV from Oral

I gave a man unprotected oral sex and protected anal sex (me being the top)...I am a  male as well. On his penis I noticed 4 bumps that looked like they were healing. He told me that they were scars from his circumcision and not to worry about it. I understand this is low-risk but I can't get the idea of herpes out of my head...I asked him again and he reassured that it was nothing and send a picture...it was blurry but it didnt seem that the bumps wer there, thereby discounting them being scars bc scars don't just "go away". I got tested 2.5 months past exposure with HerpeSelect type specific IgG, my result was HSV2:  .08, well within the negative zone...my question is, should I get further testing or is my low risk situation and 2.5 month negative test enough to move on with my life or should I get further testing @ 3 or 4 months?

Do you have HSV 1 infection?  Have you ever had a cold sore in your lifetime?

It's very good that your test is a very low positive at this point.  And very good that your anal intercourse contact was protected.  I think you are good to go on with your life but if you want to test again, you could but wait until 16 weeks have passed.  I think your risk of infection from this encounter are very low indeed.

Thank you Dr. Warren...yes I have had HSV1 from coldsores since childhood. This test was taken 10.5 weeks past exposure. I have read posts on here from "Grace" saying that the HerpesSelect test is conclusive at 3 months whereas as the others, such as Captia or WB are 4 months, is that correct? If I test negative at 12 weeks via HerpesSelect, may I put this behind me or should I wait the full 4 months? I'm confused.

Also, what do you mean "very low positive"? I thought .08 was in the negative range.

Also,do you recommend retesting or should I be ok given my low risk after the 12 week test?

Error, I meant very low negative.  Yikes, didn't mean to scare you!

I use the 16 weeks for all HSV tests.

I think for maximum certainty, I would wait 16 weeks for the final test, though I seriously doubt you will seroconvert.

Thank you...is it true however, that the HerpesSelect Test is more accurate @ 12 weeks than any other?

No, I don't feel that that is necessarily true.
