HSV vs HIV

Hi Doc,

Recently 2 months before i found some clusters(blisters) on my penis.
I have checked with one doctor and he said it as a very normal heat blisters and gave a medicine ( Which I havent used)
But when I rechecked it with one more doctor very recently, to my surprise he said it is Herpes simplex and for that to confirm he advised to do some tests.

The Blood Tests are

1) ANTI IMG Herpes Simplex
2) HIV

The Result are

1) ANTI IMG Herpes Simplex - Negative
2) HIV - Negative

But my doctor says that the infection is not recent one but it is effected earlier for ANTI IMG .
I worried that whether i am really infected with Herpes Simplex or not.

I request you to kindly respond on this so that I can live a peaceful life.
Since I am planning for child in no time.

Thanks
Pasagu

I'm sorry but if you aren't in the US, I can't really help you with your test results at all.  I encourage you to find a herpes support group locally who has someone who is well versed in the particular tests being offered in your country to seek help from.

Well, your results for herpes 2 are being reported as "less than 2", which I *assume* it means negative. Your results paper don't say anything about positive/negative ranges, etc.?

You clearly didn't have one of the tests that are usually performed in the US (HerpeSelect, Captia, etc.) because as grace pointed out such tests do not report result as being less than 2. But it seems like you had a type specific test (glycoprotein g2), which is encouraging - meaning it's supposed to be a good test. Try to find out the brand of the ELISA Herpes 2 IgG test that your lab uses and post the name here, I'll gladly help you to find out more about such test.

Has you regular partner been tested? That would be a good idea, since you had symptoms 2 months ago (correct?) and the usual tests need 3-4 months to show positive results. So if she's negative, there's a good chance you are as well. Or you can re-test within 2-3 months or so.

Hi Bob & Grace

Thanks for the information provided.

FYI I have been having intercourse since last 9 months with my partner.

The test which are performed are mentioned below with results.

1) ANTIBODY TO HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS - TYPE I (IgG) (ELISA) <2

2) ANTIBODY TO HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS - TYPE II (IgG Class against Glycoprotien G2) (ELISA) <2

3) ANTIBODY TO HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS - TYPE I (IgM) (ELISA)  - NEGATIVE

4) ANTIBODY TO HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS - TYPE II (IgM Class against Glycoprotien G2) (ELISA)  - NEGATIVE

5) HIV I & II  - NEGATIVE

Please give me some information with this whether I am having HSV or not.

Thanks
Pasagu

you tried to post on the experts forum in someone else's post so your post was bumped over to here.

as bobrope already correctly pointed out, so far you've had the wrong testing.  at this point wait and repeat the igg testing at the proper time. if you have a return of symptoms before then, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing .

also depending on the hiv testing you had done, you need to wait at least 3 months post encounter for that to be accurate too.

This is not a doctor's forum; to post there, you have to pay.

The IgM test for Herpes is flawed and useless. If more than 3 months have passed since your last sexual encounter, you should ask for a type specific blood test for Herpes I and II - IgG, not IgM.

Are you in the US? If not, you should ask the lab what brand of blood test for herpes they are using, since older tests do not differenciate between herpes type I and II.

Hi Doctor,

In my previous question I forgot to mention that I had an intercourse(in a very immature way and wearing condom) 5 yrs before the recent intercourse.

Is there any chance of HSV being carried since 5 yrs.Do I need to undergo some more tests?

Is HSV more dangerous than HIV, How will it effect our daily life and what precautions need to be taken in our sexual life?

Thanks
