HSV1 IgG help

I have this year been faced with the knowledge of an unfaithful spouse. He went for std testing end of June and with recent events again just now. Most things came back clean but not this. Info is all over the place.  NO HSV1 IgM was done and I don't know why.

The range is 0.00-<.90
In June the result was 38.0
Today it was 50.60

I want to throw up.  WHAT does this mean?  Anyone know?  Please help.

A clear positive, say greater than 5, is a clear positive and represents an established infection of 3-6 months plus. There is no other inference you can draw from the result or its movement.

Many labs cut the number off at 5 due to the lack of relevance of higher numbers.

Your husband is just like more than 50% of the population that was infected with HSV1 from his youth.

The key point is that you cannot use a HSV1 blood test as proof of infidelity in this or most circumstances. It is just too common.

I am trying to figure out at what level to trust.
He did not confess, he was caught.
He says NO touching on his part and no intimate contact only dirty massage.
He also said he didn't go/do as often as he has.

I was told that a high number (like double what shows infected) says OLD infection.  But then I read that a reading of four times shows new or RE-infection and his results two months ago showed that and the recent is now 6 times the high.....

I can't get re-infected but does this show a recent oral contact for/from him.

So those really high numbers shown here indicate to you that this is a very old infection? I've read a lot of posts but have not seen numbers so high which is why I am asking. I have a friend with a similar situation.  She is trying to understand her results as well since she has been married for some time. Her number was something like 21.5 and her doctor told her that this is an extremely old infection given the number. I was just wondering about that because it quite possibly could be that it has been around long before ever getting married. I've learned however that some physicians are not nearly as informed/educated as those in this community so I thought I would pose the question. Thoughts?

The most important point is that you in essence cannot be reinfected. Infection is for life. You carry both the virus and antibodies for life.

Both antibody levels in our blood and the tests for those antibodies are subject to natural variations. The difference in the number is actually not that great given the sensitivity of the test results at higher levels.

Your partner cheated, but this testing would prove that no STD resulted (assuming full panel testing).

So the huge jump in numbers would not mean that he was RE infected recently?

I am trying.
It is hard
Thank you for your response.

Your partner most probably has had an oral HSV1 infection since their youth.

The difference in the result is meaningless. The test result will naturally experience variation from test to test, positive or negative. Beyond an index of 5, the test is highly sensitive as to make any variation of no significance.

The only inference to be drawn is that your partner is positive for HSV1 and probably has been for a very long time.

: (  I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive him. I wish I could help you but I cant. I dont know that much about testing but a lot of people here do. Hsv1 is verry common.
