Hi,
6 Years ago i got my first outbreak of hsv1 in my mouth. At the same time i got a less severe, mild outbreak in my genitalia, which i dismissed. Subsequently I had periodic (3-4 per year) cold sores around my mouth.
I read on the internet that the second outbreak of the genital kind could happen 6-10 years after the first infection in women. Is this true? I just had a second genital recurrence and I am wondering if it is related to my first outbreak? (My current partner does not have genital herpes)
The only way you'd ever truly know it was genital herpes is by a swab/culture.
If it is genital HSV1, statistically a person has 1-2 outreaks the first year, and 1 every other year after that. But of course just like HSV2, that can vary. Some folks never have another outbreak.
That being said, remember you still can get genital HSV2. So be sure to know your partner's herpes status.
