HSV2 & oral sex

I am a male with HSV2 (though not HSV1). My outbreaks are rare, though I know shedding takes place at any time. My question is twofold. Can my partner catch HSV if I perform oral sex on her? Secondly, would she be likely to catch HSV2 orally if she performed oral sex on me? What are the approximate risks in either case, if there is any documentation? Thanks.

I assume your HSV2 is a genital infection, yes? You cannot transmit it anywhere else than from there - so no, performing oral sex on her won't transmit it. The risk is your genitals to her genitals, and your genitals to her mouth (although HSV2 doesn't "like" the oral area and only 3% of all oral cases are in fact HSV2).

Has your partner been tested to know her own herpes status?
