I had an STD screening in Nov and tested positive for hsv2. I was so shocked that I had to go back and get retested for hsv2 in Feb. The results came out positive again. The index values were not reported but they told me that for the Herpeselect the Igg values were around 5. There was no mention of values on the result. It just said Ref range negative and Flag A (don't know till date what that means!). So recently (May 2011) I sent my sample for a Western Blot just to be sure as I had no symptoms and the results indicate a negative hsv 2 status. Should I get tested again or move on with a negative result?
It is lower risk of a false positive if your hsv2 igg is above 5 but not unheard of. My advice is to call the folks at the U of washington and ask their opinion at this point. They might want to repeat the WB but odds are you really do not have hsv2.
Thanks for your reply Grace. I called UW but they asked me to discuss my results with my provider. My provider isn't telling me what to do anymore. They just said you are positive according to our test and negative acc to WB. Also from previous tests, they never told me any specific igg index values (just said they are high, very ambiguous) but I consistently got a positive from the herpeselect. I insisted on getting retested as I never had outbreaks. Do you think its reasonable to close this chapter based on the Western Blot results considering it is so accurate and time tested?
