I had a HSV IgG test for HSV1 and HSV2. I tested positive for both with values for 4.69 for HSV1 and 7.81 for HSV2.
I was pretty certain I has HSV1, as I've had oral cold sores as long as I can remember. I've never had any sort of genital sore, so the positive HSV2 really surprised me. My mother told me that she has genital herpes, and that she had it before she was pregnant with me, and that before giving birth they had to make sure she wasn't having an outbreak. She wasn't...so she delivered me vaginally, and I didn't have neonatal
herpes. The other thing I know about my health history relating to herpes, is that I had the chicken pox when I was 13, and had a very severe infection.
My questions are--
1. Could I have both HSV1 and HSV2 orally? I do get outbreaks orally 3-5 times per year, and sometimes I get a really bad blister that takes a long time to heal, but more often I'll get a few small blister that go away quickly (2-3 days).
2. Could I have gotten HSV2 antibodies from my mother having genital herpes, or from having the chicken pox?
odds are your hsv2 is genital, not oral. don't be surprised if now that you know you have hsv2, you start noticing things genitally that previously you never took much notice to before. Having hsv1 orally takes the 'edge" off of a hsv2 genital infection and makes it milder on average.
no the chicken pox virus didn't give you hsv2 antibodies. they are 2 totally different viruses.
could you have gotten hsv2 from mom? you could've but odds are you would've been fairly ill soon after birth. I assume you are sexually active that you got tested, odds are one of your prior sex
