definitely make sure they even did the inhibition testing just for the principal of it.
Thank you for your response. I have no intention of letting this go. I will receive a hard copy of the test results when I meet with my provider next week. I will work with him to attain the Western Blot test kit, and report back when I know. However, I hold out little hope for a different result. In the interim, I will abstain from sex, which won't be an issue given I don't have a regular partner anymore and use diet to control any future outbreaks just in case.
Thank you again, Grace, for sharing your knowledge and offering your time and support to those of us facing this issue.
hipaa laws say you have full access to all test results if you request them.
you always get a repeat of the herpes igg blood testing with the inhibition testing as well as as a % number. If you only got a + or a -, I'm wondering if you even had the proper testing done.
P.S. Quest does not give the values attained from the Inhibition test, just a positive or a negative. I had my provider call them to get the value and they said they didn't have the information. I call B.S., but they won't share any info with the patient, so I opted to let it go.
My advice, skip Quest and the Inhibition test where you can and go with the Western Blot. It may be more difficult to get now that Quest doesn't do it, but you will have the peace of mind that your results are accurate no matter the outcome.
Well, the news today was not what I was hoping to hear. This has changed my life and I'm saddened. I'll be fine once the dust settles, but I did want to follow up with some info I didn't know.
It seems that my status of being HSV1 may have delayed symptoms. From the document The Updated Herpes Handbook (Portland Press, 2010) written by Nurse Practioner Terri Warren, R.N., M.S., Terri Warren, R.N., M.S., M.Ed, I learned quite a lot about how the virus(es) work and coexist. Best work on the subject I've read thus far and highly recommended for those newly diagnosed like me.
Just as a FYI - Neither my mother nor I can recall a single cold sore, and I never did get chicken pox though I was exposed to it numerous times in childhood. My utter lack of symptoms (less the most recent) is a testament to the wonders of the human body to fight disease. We are lucky to have such an amazing ability to resist and heal.
Be safe out there. There are much worse diseases to be had and perhaps a lesson in the fragility of the body such as this is not a bad lesson to be had.
Good to know. Depending on the numbers I receive, if it comes back positive, I will seek out the WB.
Thank you for the information. Much appreciated.
the inhibition test may or may not be helpful. It's not the best test to use to confirm low positives but since quest developed it, they of course are sticking to it at this point.
Thank you for the quick response. Last encounter was 4 months ago. No results yet. I anticipate a few more days.
how long after you had last had sex was your testing done?
did you get the inhibition results back yet?
