I recently got an IGG test, and tested negative for HSV1, and positive (1.79) for HSV2. At the same time, I took an IGM antibody test, and I was negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. I was told that my IGG reading for type 2 was a low positive. I was confused because I've had small cold sores on my lips
for as long as I can remember, and one would think I would be positive for HSV1, but I'm not, I'm HSV2 positive. I was told that the HSV2 is growing on my mouth, and not to worry because its not genital, as I have never had any outbreaks on my penis
even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. if you have a history of cold sores, odds are that you have a false negative hsv1.
the only way to know if you have hsv2 orally would be to get your next cold sore cultured and typed. typically hsv2 doesn't reoccur very often when it's oral .
your hsv2 needs confirmed with a herpes WB at this point. 2 low positives doesn't mean it's your final answer unfortunately.
