the actual numeric result is meaningless as far as severity of disease or anything like that.
no difference in how contagious you are regardless of if you've been infected 2 years , 6 years or 30 years. same as no difference in likelihood of recurrences either for the most part.
yes lab corp is a reputable lab.
I saw that you responded to another individual who had the HSV 1-2 test done and it was mentioned that lab corp had defaulted test results is lab corp a reputable testing site? That's where my doctor sent me.
What does the different HSV1-2 test result ranges specify? For example if you got a 12.6 (if that is a true number result) vs. somebody that gets a 1.6, the person with the higher number are they more contagious than the person who has a lower number? Are does it make a difference? I got a 1.75 but my doctor said it is likIy that it's been more than 6 years since being infected so am I more less than likely to have a out break or pass it along to my partner?
no, results don't really go higher and higher over time. Yes they do typically go up over the course of a few months when newly infected but they don't keep going higher and higher. For example we wouldn't expect your hsv2 igg to be 2.7 after 6 months of being infected and then be 12.4 after 6 years of being infected or anything like that. make sense?
certainly confirm your status with further testing.
I talked to my doctor and the results of my HSV-1 was 0.00 and the HSV-2 was 1.75. I clicked on the website about the confusing IgG results and they said that if you were just recently infected your results will be lower than when you have had it a while the number would rise, but if you haven't had any sexual contacts in over 4 years obviously it has been longer than that so my score should be higher than 1.75, shouldn't it? But if it has been that long and my results are still at this level they may not change? And also if they are this low what is the ratio of me being able to spread to your partner. But I am getting re-tested in a couple of weeks the same test as before and then another one that deals with the DNA in the blood, I think that is what my dr said.
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusing-Igg-Test-Results/show/771141 is a terrific prior post on the false positive issues with the igg herpes tests.
The first line near HSV-1 should look like HSV-2. It doesn't appear like that. Can you re-type that line.
What could cause a false positive?
Everything I wrote on my post is on the paper, I'm not understanding what else you want but if I could scan this paper for you and email it to you so you can see it would that be ok. Because like I said before I have never had a fever blister, cold sore or any kind of break out before. So let me know if I can do that it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
you didn't list your hsv1 igg results - only the reference ranges. please recheck the paper work to see what the actual hsv1 igg result was -thanks!
your hsv2 is indeed a low positive. you really can't assume that you have hsv2 yet. Definitely seek out confirmatory testing like a herpes WB blood test. Your provider also needs to update their herpes testing knowledge - encourage them to read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines.
grace
William28 doesn't have the background or training in reading these tests so take his advice with a grain of salt. There is more to reading these tests then just looking at the numbers. Not even I myself will interpret test results with the knowledge I have. Grace on the other hand has the training for reading these tests and should be the one you listen to.
The IGM testing is greatly flawed though and doctors shouldn't be using it according to CDC guidelines.
Give grace a chance to read your results. If you haven't heard from her in 24hrs just reply to this thread with the word bump and she will get back to it. In the mean time PLEASE ignore william.
1-Did you get any cold sore or blister in your mouth before ?
2-Your result for HSV2 is a low positive. May be it's a false positive, you can get Biokit or WB test to confirm your false positive,
Ok my doctor sent me the test results I am going to write everything I see:
HSV 1 and 2-specific Ab, IgG HSV 1 IgG Type Spec
<0.91 index 0.00-0.90
Negative 1.09
Note: Negative indicates no antibodies detected to HSV-1. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If clinically appropriate, retest at later date. Positive indicates antibodies detected to HSV-1; coinfection with HSV-2 cannot be excluded without type specific testing
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec 1.75H index 0.00-0.90
Negative 1.09
Note:Negative indicates no antibodies detected to HSV-2. Equivocal may suggest early infection If clinically appropriate, retest at later date. Positive indicates antibodies detected to HSV-2; coinfection with HSV-1 cannot be excluded without type specific testing.
HSV 1 and 2 IgM Abs, Indirect
HSV 1 IgM Antibodies <1:10 titer <1:10 02
HSV 2 IgM Antibodies <1:10 titer <1:10 02
HSV and HSV 2 share many cross-reacting antigens. Elevated titers to both HSV 1 and 2 may represent crossreactive HSV antibodies rather than exposure to both HSV 1 and 2.

Sorry so long I didn't know what was necessary or not so I just wrote it all down, I hope this will give you an idea. Thank you for your help to so many.
Your provider was mistaken on HSV transmission info. First off the virus is active during outbreaks and does shed. There is a risk to your partner.
When someone states they have had no outbreak we tend to look at the test results. Can you provide us with the information from your test results? You may have to call your provider for this. Request to have the HSV2 line read to you. Should say something like hsv2 igg 3.25 or any other numeric result.
Let's find out if you need comfirmatory testing or not.
