Had positive results

Hi Terry

Been a while - just thought i'd update you, I had a test done a few days ago at the 11 month mark and its come back positive.

HSV1 :  42.2
HSV2 :  3.8

Looks like my body has taken 11 months to make antibodies.

The Dr however says it may not be correct as the HSV1 is so high and there may be some "cross reaction" or something going on?  Thoughts?

I'm not buying it.  Sorry.  The tests you had done are not the same tests you initially had, I don't think, as the values are not usual (very very high HSV 1).
I think you are comparing apples and oranges.  Also, if your test for HSV 1 is actually positive, it could be that your other tests missed the HSV 1 infection, as they do 1 out of 10 times.

If you want to know if you have HSV, I would suggest sending some blood to the states for a western blot.  If you want to do that, I would suggest calling our clinic to arrange this.

Terri

I always knew your case would and was negative for herpes! Congrats my friend. I know you went through a lot trying to diagnose your situation.

Please move on now. You do not have herpes!! Congrats my friend.

Had WB results back - HSV2 NEGATIVE!  The test I had done in the UK was wrong.  Woohoo!

Thanks!

Its been 18 months - still nothing that would resemble a typical outbreak, just burning and red skin now and then, particularly after bathing.  Im leaning more towards a skin condition of some sort rather than H but hopefully the WB will be able to give me a definitive answer on this.

Will keep you posted - congrats on your constant negative results :)

UK Guy! Welcome back man. I remember your case. Please do keep us posted on the results. I think the WB will provide much more clarity on your situation. I would take that result as true regardless of your inconsistent test results in the past.

I also just recently tested at 1 year at my results were still negative for both types. Good luck my friend.

hey guys, thought I would give you an update - i got a retest done:

HSV1   40.0
HSV2   2.3

So the HSV2 has actually dropped!!!  its now in false positive area.  which is weird it dropping so much, while the hsv1 has remained high.

Terri is trying to arrange a WB.  Still no visible outbreak of any kind

She said she had no problems, but wouldn't day if she hada blood test or not, so I don't know for sure.

From everything I've ever seen, BioKit just gives you a positive or a negative, not numerical values like you've had. Possible it's a different test, though.

If you're working with Terri on the WB, let that be the deciding factor.

Also, did you ever confirm with the girl whether she tested negatively or not? I thought I read that you'd contacted her and she had.

I spoke to the lab today who gave me some interesting news.  You were correct in that the test they used was different,  My old tests were done on a BioKit assay.

The new tests were done on Diasorin XL assay, which, reading about it, has the equivalent accuracy of a HerpesSelect assay.

So, given the new testing equipment is more modern and sensitive, I guess the chances of it being correct, even in the absence of sores, may be correct for HSV2 :(

Didn't I see you say in another forum that you'd contacted the girl and she had tested negative?

Tell me about it.  I had a test done 2 weeks after possible exposure to get a baseline, and a test every month for 6 months.  Then I stopped testing as I was told 6 months was enough.

Even the testing lab are surprised.  They said there was no point testing again after that many negatives.

Unless my body has been able to to control it somehow all this time....

Bro, after everything I have read on this forum, this is the first time hearing this, I dont even know how its possible to even have 7 negatives and then a positive. After testing 6 months with a negative, low one at that and then a positive....11 months later

Dr wants me to start taking anti virals.thigh of I do and retest it won't be accurate

This is the first positive hsv2 result I've ever had. After 7 negative ones

Confused, distraught, and 11 months of constant burning pain and weird symptoms . Been hell.

Happy New year eh

Get retested. Not sure why you'd need to wait a month, but, I guess do what your doctor recommends // will allow.

Thats not written in stone with a few decimals points but If you have had at least 2 igG  tests for hsv2 and came back in the 3 range then you would be positive.

I thought false positive was 1.0 to 3.5 though?

Hi Both

No other encounters since testing.

Its the same test, the same lab, the same cut off <0.90 same IGG Herpes Antibody test.

I've had 7 negative tests, all around the 0.20 mark for HSV2.  I cant believe how high my HSV1 now is - unless its now fighting the HSV2 - sharing antibodies......

I spoke to the Dr in the lab who said there could be some cross reaction going on or something, and maybe to retest in a month or so.

Either way, im confident the test is correct :(

Did you have any other sexual encounters after the one you initially posted about? Its weird to have had negative results for HSV 2  and then a positive one especially after being tested 6 months and then 11 months after the encounter.....

I'd suggest retesting to confirm. While it is possible to seroconvert late, it's definitely not common. Your high HSV one number makes me wonder if this is a different test than the ones you've had in the past -- is the cutoff for a positive result higher? Or is it the standard <0.91 = negative?

In any case, with your string of consistently negative results, I'd do another test. If the results come up negative, I'm not sure where that leaves you.

Out of curiosity, have you ever taken antivirals?

Terry doesnot visit this site only in the expert forum. But the high score means only high score and we would see more of them but most labs stop at 5.
Your still falling into the false positive range for hsv2 but if youve had at least 2 tests 3 months post exposure then you are positive for both.
