Have had cold sores... but this is different

I've had cold sores may times since childhood, but this time is different. I have a sore that appeared suddenly, like a cold sore, but does not look/feel like ones I've had before. It did not have the tingling sensation that normally proceeds a cold sore, and feels sore- more like a mouth injury (like I bit my lip). Also looks different, not like a liquid-filled blister but more swollen, and with little white spots/bumps. I also have a few little white bumps on my upper lip - directly above it.

I am with the same partner for 5 years, so I do not believe whatever it is, is sexually transmitted. Could this be a different reaction to a cold sore, or could it be something else ie. bacterial infection?

Any advice is appreciated!

if you bit your lip, it could be from that or it could be a cold sore developed from the "trauma" of the biting. if you are concerned, see your provider .

I'm sorry let me clarify. I did not actually bite my lip, that is just what the sore feels like. It actually resembles an ulcer that you would get on your cheek or tongue, and does not look like a typical cold sore.

Is there something else besides HPV1 that causes ulcer-like sores on the mouth?

hpv is a different virus than herpes.  

many things can cause sores on the lips. see your provider if you are concerned. we can guess until the proverbial  cows come home .
