I am in a wonderful relationship and my partner and I discussed that his ex- tested positive to being exposed to herpes HSV-2 but she never had an outbreak. He tested negative for both types of herpes. My questions what is the difference between someone testing positive to having herpes or testing positive to being exposed to herpes? Is it the same thing? If his ex tested positive to being exposed to it but he tested negative what is my risk of getting it from him?
Correct me if I am wrong, but if he tested negative, then doesn't that mean that he doesn't have it?
Of course, it depends on how he was tested. I've been "tested" by having a doc look at my member and telling me everything was normalNormal saline flush. I just recently had a IgG blood test confirming this. You should ask him how he was tested, and if he was given numerical values, post them on here and let the experts interpret them.
Thank you so much I appreciate your responds back. He had a blood test which he showed me the results and it only said negative to herpes. However he told me that his ex-wife said she was exposed. I was not clearClear by design Clear eyes Clear eyes acr Clear eyes clr Clear-atadine Clear-atadine children's if exposed meant she had it- I assumed it did but wanted to check. She has since passed away from cancer so we cannot ask her any thing further about that. So if his wife had it but he tested negative he could still have it in his system but it not be active? My 2nd question, even if his blood test is negative but his ex-wife had it I could still get it correctCorrect (new formula)? Thank you so much for helping me with this. I just did not know how to approach this. Thank you :)
If he has a negative blood test for herpes, he doesn't "have it" in his system. He is negative. That means there is nothing to pass on to you.
Discordant couples have relationships all the time (one has herpes, the other doesn't) and the one with herpes doesn't always infect the other person. Just because his former partner had herpes doesn't mean she infected him.
Hi warningblender, Thank you. I was tested a year 1/2 ago and came up negative but am thinking about getting tested again becuase my ex-cheated. I just thought if she had it he must but you cleared that up for me. Thank you
if your bf is testing negative for herpes then he doesn't have it. If he doesn't have it then you don't have to worry about transmission.
Even if his wife did have genital herpes, that doesn't mean he had to have contracted it from her. With his negative tests I don't think you have to worry about herpes in this relationship at this point.

Have you been tested in the past?
