Herpes- Was I misdiagnosed?

Last week I noticed a few red bumps around my genital area so I went to a doctor who upon a visual inspection declared I had herpes. He didn't take any kind of sample at all and mentioned it looks like herpes. I haven't had any of the other symptoms mentioned for herpes and the bumps aren't painful at all.

You very well may have been misdiagnosed. A visual diagnosis of herpes can be wrong. Many things can mimic herpes. Also, typically herpes lesions are painful.

Sadly the doctor SHOULD have done a swab/culture, or at the very least ordered a blood test.

Why do you think it's herpes (aside from the possible wrong diagnosis?) Did you have sex with someone who has herpes?

Not that I know of.....But I cant rule it out. Ive only received oral sex, I really dont think the doctor knew much about herpes anyway. When I mention HSV1 he had no clue what I was talking about, he just prescribed me some Acyclovir and sent me off. I dont know what to do now, I have no clue where to go around here that could help me. Im just totally devastated.

All the more reason NOT to be devastated - you're going on a doctor who doesn't even know what HSV1 is!!! Again, a visual diagnosis is NOT an accurate way to positively diagnose herpes!

Get a blood test for goodness sake. Request an IgG type specific blood test, post the results here once you do. See a different doctor if need be!

Is HerpeSelect Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 IgG really safe to order online or is it a scam? And how long should I wait to order it since contracting the virus?

I recommend a baseline blood test now. You can order thru tstd.org and healthcheckusa.com - both are reputible places online to order thru. You only want the igg herpes blood test.

At this point I recommend going monday to someone else for a 2nd opinion. No pain at all doesn't really sound like a herpes issue.  It's too late now for a lesion culture unfortunately.

Should I wait before taking the blood test? The said sexual encounter I had was mid may. Would the antibodies be present since I already have symptoms....?

baseline blood test is a good idea to know your status at this point in case it isn't a newly acquired infection.

The first sexual encounter I ever had was around the end of april...... So would the blood test at least tell me if I was positive for either? I dont ever remember having a cold sore.

Most folks who have hsv1 orally, don't get obvious cold sores to know it.
