Herpes -painful ion

I have read that herpes can cause painful       ion...but is this only the case when the urine comes in contact with the sores?  I got a sore on my testicle....should I have had pain when       ing in this condition?  Or would the urinary pain only occur if urine contacted the sores.  In other words does urinary pain manifest in herpes in cases where sores are far from the urine stream?   thanks!!!
