Herpes?? Dr thinks so but symptoms aren't all there.

Saturday night, I was in the shower and felt like I "ripped" something in my perineal area. It only hurt for that minute. Me and my bf had sex that night with no pain whatsoever. Sunday and Monday passed and the only pain I had was if I opened my leg too far. Tuesday, I went to the creek and a small river. I live in the south so they call it the "dog days". I tried to urinate in the creek and it felt like razor blades. I noticed extreme soreness after this. When I got home, I looked at my vagina and noticed a bump at the bottom right of my vagina. It had no head or anything. Was just under the skin so I thought maybe I had an ingrown hair (I shave every other day). I woke up several times that night to sever itching. And the next morning, I had more bumps. All under the skin. On the right side of my vagina. I also started to have clear discharge from my vagina. It began to burn when I urinated really bad at this point and by Wednesday it hurt so bad I couldn't hardly sit down. I kept A&D ointment on it and as soon as I woke up this morning (Thursday) I went to the health dept and was squeezed in. By this point, the bumps are inside and outside of my vagina and I noticed one on my clitoris as well. From me itching in my sleep they were just sores. I never saw a blister on any of my spots. And they were extremely swollen from me trying to look.
Anyway, the doctor looked and said that he was almost positive that it is herpes. He can't be 100% sure because it is my first time having something like this happen. But he made the comment, "it looks like herpes if I've ever seen it". He swabbed a couple of my sores and said that he saw evidence of trich but they weren't moving so he couldn't confirm this and I also have a little vaginosis. I am on nuvaring so this has happened pretty frequently (the vaginosis). He wrote me a script for Valtrex and when the nurse called me in to go over my medicine, she told me he wasn't sure which it was so he was treating me for everything. I took 4 500mg tabs of Flagyl today and he started me on 2 tabs of Valtrex BID x 10 days and then 2 tabs daily afterward. There was no blood test taken. The only thing he did was swab. They said come back after my 3rd outbreak. And really told me nothing else. Gave me no information at all.
I have not had any of the "prodrome" symptoms. No fever. Nothing. And the areas that were sores from scratching now have white on them. They don't look like a blister or a scab to me. Also, me and my bf have been together 6 months. Both faithful. Neither of us have had anything like this before. And we perform oral sex a lot. So I'm wondering why we don't have anything in or on our mouths, why I only have these symptoms and not him, and is it really herpes considering they don't look like the sores I have seen in pictures and I haven't had any flu symptoms. I'm so confused. My bf wants me to go to a gynecologist and get a second opinion.

1 gram twice a day is the appropriate dose for a newly acquired herpes infection or suspected newly acquired infection.

By the way, the Valtrex dose I am on is 2 500mg tabs twice daily for 10 days. Then 2 500mg tabs daily. That's 2g a day. Too much?

no, that is not normal discharge for herpes.  give the flagyl a couple of days more to work and if the discharge is still there on monday, they can retest you for vaginal infections then too.

Thank you so much. I bought the dermoplast yesterday and it is helping a some. Is a lot of dark yellow discharge and sometimes pink tinged normal with hsv? And by a lot I mean sometimes I feel like I am urinating on myself a little. I am having to wear a pad.

dermoplast spray ( the blue can for the genital area, not the red can ) is a spray on topical anesthetic you can use to spray on anywhere it hurts. It's usually under $10 a can in most drug stores.

you can also try soaking in the tubby with epsom salts thrown in too.

alternate tylenol with advil unless you have a medical reason not to - i.e tylenol 1000mg at 6 a.m, advil 600mg at 9 a.m, tylenol at noon, advil at 3pm etc.  it gives you pain relief similar to some narcotics without the side effects.

ice - apply it to the area that hurts.

when you see the gyn, ask for the type specific herpes igg blood testing to be done since it'll be too late then to repeat your lesion cultures. call the clinic your culture was done at before you go too.

Thank you for answering. I was hoping it would be you who did. He went to the doctor today for a yearly checkup on bp and cholesterol and asked his doctor to test him for herpes too. So they did a blood test on him for it. He also talked me into making an appointment with a gynecologist and I have one scheduled for Monday. I have pretty much accepted the fact that I have herpes, but him and my mama are both in denial and are trying to talk me out of believing it. I just want factual answers. Soon. Is there anything I can do to help relieve this pain? I am miserable. Right now that's all I am worried about. If you have any advice for this please help.

odds are that neither you nor your partner have ever been tested for herpes before to know your status.  at this point, give the clinic a call in a week and ask what your lesion culture results were . if they are negative, both you and your partner should seek out type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. If your lesion culture is Positive, ask which type and your partner will need tested to know his status too. most health departments do not offer type specific herpes igg blood testing so you will most likely need to seek out the testing elsewhere.

not sure what valtrex dose you were given but it should be 1gm 2x/day for 10 days.  once you know if this is herpes and what type it is, you can better decide with your partner whether to continue with treatment or not after that.
