Herpes I: Oral or Genital? How do you know?

I'm in the process of considering starting an intimate relationship with an individual.  He agreed to get tested and shared his results with me:

Herpes I (IGG): 43.6
Herpes II (IGG): 3.7 (likely going to retest to figure out what's going on with this)

My question is: how do we know if herpes I is oral or genital?  Per the dr. he said it was oral and nothing to worry about.  I'm still concerned and trying to figure out whether to move forward with a sexual relationship.  Any help/advice regarding the risks is appreciated!!!   Note I have had cold sores throughout my life here & there...thinking I should get tested for HSV1 as it would help to know this info?

An IgG test cannot confirm location.

The general e rule would be if you cannot recall a genital outbreak, then a HSV1 diagnosis will be oral. You will have no knowledge of a HSV1 infection from your youth, but you would almost certainly remember the time if you were infected genitally with HSV1.

If you've had cold sores since childhood, you have oral HSV1.

An IgG test is the best way to determine this.
