(bad idea) with a random girl on May 1st (about 27 days ago). After realizing that this was a bad idea, I logically told myself I would get tested after I gave ample time for antibodies to build up (if I HAD gotten infected). I didn't notice anything funky while in the act, and the girl claims she is/was clean. I periodically checked my genital area from time to time, and noticed nothing weird.
About two and a half weeks after the initial possible exposure, I noticed what appeared to be a yeast infection in the creases of my groin
(I am highly active athletically) so I put some anti-fungal cream on it, and it cleared up within one or two days. Now obviously this could have been caused by anything, but it sort of put me in alarm mode. I started checking frequently down there.
It's been about a week since then, and now I'm developing flu
(in back), no appetite, and have extremely swollen lymph nodes in my neck (but not in my groin). I still feel no irritation anywhere around my genitals. The contact with the girl only lasted about a minute after I freaked out about not wearing a condom (too late after the fact.)
Question 1) About these flu-like symptoms, if they were herpes related, how long might they last? Does this mean a breakout is coming?
Question 2) At 1 month after possible exposure, how effective would the IgG specific blood test be? I plan to get tested at the 3 months mark as well. Would this earlier test have a better chance of telling me I am infected but also with the chance of a false negative?
Question 3) I heard the odds of a male getting genital herpes from a female is less than the opposite. Is this true? What exactly are the odds of getting HSV2 with no outbreak symptoms present (on the partner) and no condom? I heard it's about a 1/950 chance. I hope I wasn't unlucky.
to address some of your concerns, and only to be taken with a grain of salt as it's only my first impression/opinion and i'm not an expert...
the exposure was pretty low risk being so brief
flu like symptoms/swollen nodes would come before the primary outbreak, but the timing is a bit off for a typical virus as it's well over 20 days (check this on other posts/the expert forums) and it's logical to assume that what you assumed to be fungal was not herpes
the flu without any other symptoms is likely just a flu, getting tested shouldn't hurt but even though i've been told antibodies can develop in as short as a couple weeks... if it came up negative you would just want to get tested again anyways
the rash you describe in your groin doesn't sound like herpes. definitely sounds like fungus like you suspected.
I agree, most times the flu really is just the flu.
totally up to you if you want to follow up with testing. should you get any obvious genital lesions, be seen promptly for them. Otherwise if you need the peace of mind, you can get a type specific herpes igg blood test 3 months post encounter.
