Herpes Question

Hello Doc,
I just got my test results for all STD's, the only thing I got positive was HSV 1 IGG Type Specific at >5.00 H. My question is the following. This test was a blood test after a 1 week of possible exposure, I gave a girl oral. Now, she also gave me oral and had sex with her without a condom for about 5 minutes and then I put a condom on. My HSV 2, came back at <0.12 IGG. I do not have open sores on my mouth or genitals and I am on my 13th day of the possible exposure. I have been itchy, tingling, twitching all over my mouth and nose, my eyes as well.
Question is the following:
- Is this test conclusive or can a be a false positive, since it was not taken from an open sore and only after a 1 week of the possible exposure?
-Is the tingling itchy a symptom of initial break or just for people that already have the infection?

As you can imagine, I am a nervous reck, and sincerely do not know what to do.

Regards,

You are doing this correctly, yes.  We have only intermittent internet service right now.

If your HSV 1 test was >5 a week past an encounter, this is definitely not new infection.  This is a long standing infection.  Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip?  If yes, then this is why you have antibody to HSV 1.

If you never have, then your infection could be oral or genital, no way to know for certain.  But the point is, you are already infected with HSV 1, so if the person giving you oral sex also has HSV 1, you are not at risk from this experience of acquiring HSV 1 genitally.  If she is negative for HSV 1, then it is a possibility that you exposed her to infection if you have this orally.

As for HSV 2, it is way too early to know about that unless she has been tested and knows that she is negative for HSV 2.  And I don't know when your last sexual contact was so I don't know when to recommend testing for you if you want to do that.

Hello Terri,
I would really appreciate your comments and reply on my post. Also to let you know, the tingling and itching is gone today, no open sores or bumps and 14 days after the possible exposure.
Let me know.
Thanks,
