Has she ever been tested for herpes? She might have type 1 as well, and then you all won't have as much to worry about. I'd still avoid oral sex with an outbreak though.
Thanks! I haven't performed oral sex on her while having the cold sore. She's never had a cold sore so hopefully she won't get one from kissing me. I was just nervous to think I could get genital from her since she kissed me.
You had an obvious cold sore and were kissing your gf. If she didn't have hsv1 orally before this, you just upped the odds quite a bit of her becoming infected. Did that ever occur to you? When you aren't sure of someone's hsv1 status you should avoid kissing them until the cold sore is completely healed and the scab has fallen off. You also shouldn't perform oral sex on them either until it's healed. You can still transmit hsv1 even when obvious cold sores aren't present but the risk is lower than when you have an obvious cold sore or feel one about to start.
