Herpes Question

First time poster.  My girlfriend and me were fooling around and I have a cold sore on my lip that is drying up.  After a little kissing she performed oral sex on me.  What are the odds of contracting HSV-1 on my penis?

People with HSV1 orally do not get a new HSV1 infection somewhere else on their own body,however you have the ability to pass your HSV1 infection to your g/f Genitally via oral sex.

I agree - there is a MUCH higher chance that you would give it to your gf genitally with a cold sore present than you would ever get it genitally.  You should avoid kissing and giving oral sex when you have a cold sore.

Has she ever been tested for herpes?  She might have type 1 as well, and then you all won't have as much to worry about.  I'd still avoid oral sex with an outbreak though.

Thanks! I haven't performed oral sex on her while having the cold sore.  She's never had a cold sore so hopefully she won't get one from kissing me.  I was just nervous to think I could get genital from her since she kissed me.

You had an obvious cold sore and were kissing your gf.  If she didn't have hsv1 orally before this, you just upped the odds quite a bit of her becoming infected. Did that ever occur to you?  When you aren't sure of someone's hsv1 status you should avoid kissing them until the cold sore is completely healed and the scab has fallen off.  You also shouldn't perform oral sex on them either until it's healed.  You can still transmit hsv1 even when obvious cold sores aren't present but the risk is lower than when you have an obvious cold sore or feel one about to start.

Yes I did take that in to account, but she said she wanted to kiss me.  I wouldn't or would never perform oral sex on her with a visible cold sore.

Its been four days since I had sex with a girl that just told me last night she had herpes. What r the chances that I contracted this?

I would say high, especially if you didn't use protection. It can take 1-2 weeks before you get symptoms, if you get any at all. HSV1 and 2 can remain dormant for years. Get tested. If you don't have any symptoms, orally or genitally (HSV1 is not strictly oral and HSV2 is not strictly genital), then your doctor can do a simple blood test.
