Herpes Recurrance

I was diagnosed with HSV1 3 years ago that was contracted from my boyfriend who has it orally. I had an initial outbreak that consisted of one sore and never experienced a reoccurance. Recently I experienced a lot of itching and thought it was a yeast infection. I went to a clinic 4 days after it started because it was starting to sting and I could see the skin was irritated and red. The doctor said that he didn't see anything specific and I told him of my concern of an outbreak. He told me to just have baths and apply polysporin to the skin. Two days after that appointment when I was checking I noticed that the skin had broken out into sores. I went to the emergency department today and the doctor there told me it looked like an HSV2 initial outbreak but I still have to wait for test results. I have been with my boyfriend for over three years now and haven't been with anyone else and he has no sign of HSV2. I was wondering how it is possible to have an outbreak that looks like this when I already had an initial outbreak two years ago and it was only one sore?

Talk to  your bf and ask if he ever had testing for hsv2. he'd have to have it in order for you to have recently contracted it from him.

no reason to wait 2 weeks for results! Give them a call monday to see what is back and specifically ask if they also tested you for yeast and bacterial infections too vaginally.  Most results are back within days, they say 2 weeks so that they have time to sort through the paper work and get back to you.

this might be your hsv1 reoccurring and it might also be something else or even you have a vaginitis going on  that triggered your hsv1 to reoccur too. that is why thinking outside of std's/herpes and also getting the yeast and bacterial infections testing is also helpful. Not unusual for bv to occur and trigger herpes and bv is very common for us gals.

I don't know what tests my boyfriend has had but he has had it his whole life.

They did test me for infections at the first clinic, but I have to wait another week and a half to get results. The second time the doctor did more swabs of the sores that I am still waiting on results.

I'm just not too educated on what to expect on outbreaks, I always thought that if I had another one it wouldn't be as bad as the first, but this is much worse and I'm very confused.

Thanks for responding grace.

polysporin can be very irritating to our sensitive genital skin. I rarely recommend its use on the genital area.

do you know if your bf has ever been tested for herpes before?

did they test you vaginally for yeast and bacterial infections when you were seen either time? did they do a lesion culture of your symptoms when you were seen the 2nd time?
