yes it does sound like you had the lesion culture done in a timely manner even but they do have a high false negative rate. if you can get a pcr swab done instead of a regular viral lesion culture if these ever reoccur, even better accuracy. Sometimes it's not always cut and dry and your symptoms certainly do suggest herpes but unless they reoccur, no easy way to figure out if you really do have hsv1 genitally or not.

I understand - I appreciate the response greatly.
Its pretty confusing - the first outbreak I had, my doc did perform a culture test which came back negative.
If it happens again, I will check with the doc and get another test.
Thanks a bunch.
Best thing you can do at this point is when symptoms occur again, go to be seen again when you have them. Only way to know if you have hsv1 genitally is from a lesion culture of active symptoms. You might have hsv1 genitally but only way to know is from a lesion culture.
wish there were quicker answers but it's not so clear cut with hsv1.
Thank you GREATLY gracefromHHP! I REALLY appreciate it!
My boyfriend performed oral sex on me....days later I got what I believed to be blisters. Never in my life experienced anything so painful. Visually it was herpes. I immediately saw a gyno, he swabbed - did a culture test - it came back negative. I was too "in shock" from the ordeal to take a blood test....so he gave me Valtrex. I took it for a week and the lesions went away.
I was depressed, suicidal, etc.....
Now this year, last month exactly, I noticed a bump - just one small bump, but it was 'under' the skin...i thought it was due to waxing/shaving. I took Valtrex for 5 days it went away. I saw the dr for a blood test (i had courage). They called me back with the results and said I was positive for HSV 1 and HSV2.....
I cried and cried and cried!!!!
I had my annual exam a few days ago and asked for a printout of the results....and that is what I posted initially.....Confused to say the least...
you are technically + for hsv1. it's a very low result so you might not really be.
you are negative for hsv2.
what caused you to get tested?
