I am in a commited monogomous relationship, but I beleive I shared a towel with someone who had an HSV-2 Outbreak at the time.
I was exposed two weeks ago and went for testing this week. The test results came back that HSV1 and HSV2 were both equivicable.
She said the test to see if there was an infection from long ago was Negative, but the test for a recent infection was Equivicable.
I have not noticed any symtoms (symptoms) of HSV. The doctor prescribed me Valtrax for 10 days. And is having me test again in 6 weeks. This is killing me because I do not want to put my partner at risk.
The doctor says I wont get a negative result, but probably positive next time. Please help me! My nerves
OH MY GOD, you shared a towel with someone who has HSV2?????????? Ummm, you can't get herpes from a towel!!! You're wasting your time and money thinking that it does! You would think your doctor would have told you that but I guess with a failing economy, everyone needs to make a buck!!! You DON'T have herpes from sharing a towel!!
Unfortunately your provider doesn't understand herpes transmission or herpes testing and has done you no good whatsoever :(
First off - the "old" hsv result is what I am guessing is the herpes igg blood test. You were negative for both according to what you've reported so that means that coming into this you were most likely negative for both hsv1 and hsv2 ( I have no idea what your test results were so I"m just guessing - if you can get a copy of your blood tests and post the actual numerical results - ie hsv1 igg . 34 and hsv2 igg .67 or whatever they are - I can better help you with all this ). The "new" results is most likely the herpes igm which is an inaccurate test and should've never been drawn on you in the first place. It being equivocal actually means it's negative anyways - even if it was positive - you shouldn't have worried or received medication. Treating you for herpes based on what I"m guessing is the testing you had done so far was completely inappropriate. Combined with you used a towel that someone who has hsv2 used which is an almost impossible risk in the first place - your doctor has fed into your fears
