Herpes Scare - Please Help

A little over 11 weeks ago I had a unprotected encounter.  3 days later I got a sore throat and a yellow tongue.  The next night I woke up in night sweats and had one night of chills.  Night sweats lasted for 3-4 days (could be due to alcohol intake).  6 days after the encounter I felt pressure on my left side of my groin and lower abdomen.  For the next 1.5 weeks my lymph nodes deep in my groin felt sore, I could not lay on my stomach while sleeping or move in certain directions with a feeling of discomfort.  Extreme fatigue (maybe due to lack of sleep) lasted a week or so.  I started to walk and run a lot and felt like my muscles in my legs (inner thighs) were becoming very tight for a few days.  There was an entire week where I felt like my neck nerve was hurting and into the back of my head.  After that, I began having neuralgia in my lower body and lots of muscle twitching in my lower body  as well as nerve pain for about a week.  I also experienced stinging pains in my groin, crawling sensation once.  These symptoms subsided for a week and then have flared up again, muscle twitches, dull ache in groin and sometimes in my butt cheeks.  I tested negative LabCorp Trinity Captia IGG at 8.5 weeks for 1 & 2.  I have felt a few deep itches in my penis.  My anxiety, stress and depression levels have been astronomical for the past 12 weeks.  Right now, my symptoms for the past 4 days have been intermittent groin aches with muscle pulling in my inner thighs.  At 11.2 weeks I tested negative LabCorp Trinity Captia IGG again for both 1 & 2.  At 11.5 weeks I tested negative for both 1 & 2 via Quest Herpeselect IGG.  Please help as I am still concerned about herpes.  Thanks so much.

Hey Terri, I had an 18 week negative Captia IGG test and it was negative.  What do you think I can conclude?  Will you please reread my initial symptoms?  Thank you very much.

I did respond.  Yes all of the symptoms could be occurring and not be herpes.  You are pressing me for answers I do not have in your situation.  You need to wait to get an accurate lab test to sort out if you have herpes.  Or you develop genital sores please have them swab tested right away.

This is definitely my last post on this thread.

Terri, could you please respond??

I guess what I am asking is: How can all of these symptoms be occurring right after a single exposure and it not be herpes, do any of my symptoms match up with herpes at all in your opinion?

Hi there. Did you ever retest at 4 mos? I'm experiencing a similar thing, but I have flu/sore throat, and slept w someone who has it but didn't know and is asymptomatic. We slept together 4 different days, and the last time w no condom. 6 days later, flu feelings, brain swelling headaches, back and leg pain, swollen glands (not in groin yet) and a few fisures near vag/anus I had cultired and were neg, however I have 2 tiny red dots, one on but cheeck one near vag, but on dry skin. I'm day since we last slept together unprotected. I did HSV@ test and it was neg, but I was less than 2 weeks into this. I am taking antivirals and lysine. THOUGHTS? The creepy crawly lower spine/down the leg is really convincing me.

Just to update you, last night I had an electric shock feeling against the shaft of my penis for about 5 seconds.  This pain was extremely uncomfortable.  I have ready many instances of people with genital herpes, having this symptom.  Please help me with what you think.

I cannot address your vague concerns about whether or not this is herpes.  Pain in your fingers has nothing to do with herpes in this situation

Hey Terri, I know your busy, but I have had intermittent nerve pain in my fingers and pain in my buttocks/inner thighs lately.  The week and a half of groin tenderness/pain early after exposure, really concerns me.  I have read a lot about how this relates to Herpes, if you think not, what could it possibly be?  Thank you.

I am worried most about Herpes. The week and a half of groin tenderness/pain is what really concerns me, 7 days after exposure.

Enough time had passed at 5.5 to weeks to be tested for the common things like gonorrhea and chlamydia.  Syphilis can take from 9 to 90 days to show up in a blood test, hepatitis around the same and herpes can take up to four months.  The newest HIV tests pick up the vast majority of infections by 6 weeks after the encounter.

Or should I say, did enough time pass for everything to be clear at 5.5 weeks?

It could be related to prostate issues, yes.  I'm assuming you've had a full std screen for things like chlamydia and gonorrhea?

I need to add that I have had zero redness and zero lesions at this point.

Thanks for the quick reply, Terri.  I have also had an urge to urinate mostly at night for the past week or so.  If you feel it is not herpes, could you suggest what other STD this might be or other disease (if anything)?  Or could this all be CPPS or driven from my anxiety?  Thank you, Terri.

If you were our patient I would reassure you with a high degree of certainty that you don't have herpes.  we like patients to wait 4 months from an encounter to test most accurately, but almost 12 weeks with both negative is a very good sign.

I think you are swept up in worry, and likely with cause.
