Herpes? Shingles? Folliculitis? Other?

Herpes? Shingles? Folliculitis? Other?

I'm a 46 year old gay man who has been in an exclusive sexual relationship for the past 3 years.  I have tested clean for STDs within the past two years, but having concerns.
On Friday, May 20th. I noticed a small bump on my thigh about 4 inches down from my groin.  I lightly touched it and it burst with clear liquid.  As I was getting ready for work, I thought nothing of it and slapped a bandaid on it to keep it from weeping through my pants.  Later in the day, I felt a slight burn in my upper pubic region and went to the men's room to discover that I had another blister there and  a somewhat larger one on my scrotum.  Each blister formed and burst almost immediately.  They were not tiny and very distinct, i.e., they were not in clusters.  Since then, several blisters have formed and burst in the crack of my thigh.  The initial blister area has all but disappeared and the others get red after they burst and then seem to heal within a day.  The whole area has  produced maybe twenty distinct blisters of varying sizes which turn read upon bursting and then start to heal over.  No crust, just a light shedding of dead skin.  Additionally, I'm experiencing mild irritation, but I can't say the blisters or raw spots after they burst are particularly painful.
My initial fear has been herpes, so I have made an appointment with my doctor but can't get in until Thursday, June 2nd.  At this rate, things will be completely healed by then, so I have taken some pictures to show my doctor.  I went to a clinic to have a herpes type one and two blood test done to see if perhaps it was something that has been dormant and just now awakening.  Both tests came back negative.
I had an episode of Shingles in 2000 behind my right ear (opposite side of this "rash") so wondering if this might be another Shingles outbreak.
I would be convinced it was herpes but the blood test (I think) ruled out anything but a relatively recent infection.  Six days before the blister appeared, I had sex (mostly close rubbing and oral (no anal penetration)) with my boyfriend of three years.  I am fairly certain he does not have herpes, but I can explore that further once I find out what's going on with me.  Prior to that I had been travelling for a marathon and a family vacation with no sex from late April on.  The one incident I'm concerned about would a "sports massage" I received prior to the marathon on April 30 (20 days before the blister).  The private sports massage by a vendor at the marathon expo quickly turned into some very rough rubbing and a lot of body contact (I was uncomfortable enough to end it after about 15 minutes).  I may be completely paranoid on that one, but it's one of things I come up with while racking my brain trying to figure out where I may have acquired something.
My other thought is bacterial infection from running gear.  I do run long distances every other day, and have some running shorts (with nylon liners) that really should be thrown away.
Sorry for the rambling.  I do have my doctor appointment coming up and plan to get to the bottom of this, but while I wait (and obsess) I wanted to see if you have any thoughts.  Thanks.
