Herpes Test Result

Hi there,

On December 11th i received a protected oral sex from a CSW, 18 days after exposure i did blood test and my result is as follows:

HSV-1 IgG : 0.665 (-)
HSV-1 IgM : 1.062 (+)
HSV-2 IgG : 0.321 (-)
HSV-2 IgM : 0.189 (-)

I am concern about my HSV-1 IgM result, is it mean that i got oral herpes or is it only a false positive? Should i retest or can i ignore my IgM result and stick with HSV- IgG result. I haven't got any symptoms until now. Does that means i didn't got it. Kindly looking forward to your response

Dear grace, thank you so much for your response and your patience. I really appreciate it. I guess my guilt, worries and anxiety get the best of me. I really need to convince myself that the condoms works, and tried to overcome the intrusive "what if" thought and scenario that pop up in my mind. God bless you and others moderators in this forum, you guya are great.

Dear Grace,

Thank you so much for your assurance. Anxiety is indeed a scary things, it play tricks on your mind. I just have one final follow-up question for you, and i REALLY appreciate your answer. i do have some concern about gonorrhea and chlamydia,  a day after the exposure i was taking urinalysis and it shows that i have urinary tract infection from and shows some bacteria and +1 leukosit, the doctor said it could be just UTI dan gave levofloxacin 500 mg daily. I haven't got any GO/Chlam symptom ever since. Do you think i am in the clear? Can i have unprotected sex with my wife? Kindly looking forward to your response.

you were never at risk for hsv1 from this encounter. we recommend protected oral sex for a reason - it works!! It's close to 100% protection against std transmission when you have protected oral sex.

no need for any further testing for ANY std from this encounter!!Don't confuse anxiety with risk!

Hi there, just a quick update from me. So yesterday when i am taking a shower i notice something that looks like a pimple on the base of my penis. I assume it was it was the blister, but when i google it, it characteristics looks more like foliculitis, so i went to the dermato-venereologist in the hospital near my office. The doctor than examine me and told me that i didnt' have herpes blister nor folliculitis, it just gland and the abrasion that other doctor said that looks like herpes is actually just a normal variation of penis skin. I told the doctor about my herpes test result and suspect my + IgM as a false positive and told me to take another blood test yesterday. I will have my result by tomorrow, where i am praying that it would come negative. Wish me luck guys

You received protected oral sex, hence odds were somewhere between zero and 1 in 5,000 that you could have contracted HSV1. HSV2 is not a risk from oral sex.

Should you have contracted any form of HSV, the odds are 80-100% that you would have experienced symptoms in the form of lesions within 10 days.

Hence the odds are essentially non existent. I don't see the need to retest.

Thank you so much for your assurance, I'm beginning to think no one would answer me, really appreciate it. I am so worried and anxious, i still don't have any symptom until now, which is 31 days after exposure, is it a good sign? Do i need retesting? I really need closure, thank you.

The tests show that you most likely do not have a herpes infection before the encounter with the CSW.

That said, HSV rarely just turns up as a primary infection without some symptoms, often very noticeable for HSV1.

The IgM should be ignored.

If you have concerns, then a 12 week test is required to be conclusive in a negative result. Only test for IgG. I am very sure these will be negative.

I also heard that one time exposure posed little risk? Is it true? Please help.
