Herpes Test Results and Concerns

I recently had a full panel for STIs done. I had the STI tests done because I was in for an annual check up and it was offered and I thought it would be a good idea for my own peace of mind.

My doctor called and said that I have tested positive for HSV 1 & 2.

Background:
Four days before the test I performed unprotected oral sex on a man (no signs of breakout or lesions on the penis) but I did not receive oral sex. Other than kissing there was no other form of skin on skin contact.
Prior to that encounter I had not had sex of any sort (vaginal/oral/digital) for about 18 months.

Test results:
Herpes I/II (IgM) 1.53 Hi

Herpes I (IgM) (IFA) Weakly Detected
Herpes II IgM) (IFA) Weakly Detected

Herpes I Ab. (IgG) >8.0 Hi
Herpes II Ab. (IgG) <0.2

Questions:
1. HSV 1 - I have never had a cold sore in my life. Is it possible to be a carrier and never have a breakout.
2. HSV 2 - Is it possible to get HSV 2 from performing oral sex on someone showing no signs of a breakout.
3. HSV 2 - Is it possible to be a carrier of HSV 2 for 18 months and still have a negative IgG result if I've never had a breakout?

If I am a carrier of HSV 1 I can deal with that but I'm having a difficult time believing that I have HSV 2. However, the doctor was insistent that I recently acquired HSV 2.

I do plan on getting retested in 8 weeks but right now I'm driving myself crazy with worry. Everything itches and every little tingle (in my mind) is an out break.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

This all looks very clear to me...

You almost definitely have an oral HSV1 infection. With no known outbreaks you were probably infected before 3 years of age and have not had outbreaks since. This is very common.

Once you are positive for on form of HSV, IgM testing is then useless. What is being detected could readily relate to your HSV1 infection or simply be a false positive.

With no sexual contact for 18 months, the negative IgG for HSV2 is all the proof you need!

Silly doctor... but all is OK rgarding HSV2, you do not have it!

Note: I have not had any outbreaks on or near my genital area. However, I have looked at it more in the past two weeks than I have in my entire life combined :)
