started for my own information. I haven't been sexually active since May' 08. I went in to get my results and I'm good everywhere but for herpes. HSV 1 & 2 IGG/IGM WITH REFLEX
is the name of the test results. It came up positive with a "IgM" test of 1.33 and Negative with a "IgG" test of .44 (as shown below). The title confuses me also by saying "HSV 1 & 2 IgG/IgM with reflex
. This result freaks me out! I started doing research people keep saying disregard the IgM tests and only take igG tests. My ultimate question then is, should i accept this test result as POSSITIVE and go from their? OR go in and do a retake of it? Thanks
Should i go in and do a retake? Im still confused on the whole thing? Is both the HSV 1 and 2 tied into these results? or is the HSV 1 the IgG test, and the HSV 2 the IgM test? Or did they test both 1 and 2 with both types of antibodies?
The test you had done is the old default labcorp testing for herpes by the looks of it. The igg test is a combined test on that test and if it's negative then they stop there and don't do a hsv2 igg type specific test to see if you have hsv2 or not. In theory being negative on the combined test means you have neither hsv1 or hsv2.
As Jess already pointed out and gave you a link to more info - the igm test is useless and should've never been drawn on you so totally disregard the + results from it. they are pretty much meaningless.
You waited long enough that there's really not any reason to repeat your herpes igg blood test at this point.
, and i took a risk and definitely learned from it! But i do appreciate you Jess and grace for helping everyone, and your word's are comforting and make me happy. However since i've always played it safe
, i think i will talk with my doctor, explain what i have learned this entire day (got the news today) and see what they have to say! Thanks again! I shall post what my Doc. says once i find everything out :D
