Herpes Testing question

Can cold sores be caused by something other than Herpes? I ask because I have had a few cold sores in the past, but have tested neg. for IGg 1 and 2. Are these tests accurate? Any information would be appreciated very much. Thank-you.

Even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. The best thing to do is the next time you have what you think is an oral herpes symptom, see your provider for confirmation and a lesion culture.

I have had 3 different IGg tests and all have been negative.The cold sores that I have had, I do not recall them ever crusting over. They just tingled on my lips, swelled and went away in a day or two. Maybe not herpes? Any thoughts?

The only way to know would be if you got a culture of them at this point. repeated negative blood tests though and just swelling of the lips probably is something else though.
