Herpes Through Saliva to Eye

I have genital herpes but have never had oral herpes to my knowledge.  Today, while playing with my young son, I accidentally got some saliva in his eye.  There was no contact, just some drool from my mouth into his eye by accident. Is it possible for me to transmit herpes to his eye in this way?  I am quite nervous about this because I believe I am also now having an outbreak on my genitals (but not my mouth).  Thanks for your advice on this as I am very upset and concerned.

Grace;

Thanks again for your help.  This has been agonizing for me as I am sure you can imagine.

you wouldn't have herpes in your saliva if you are only infected genitally.

Grace:  Thanks for the quick response.  I know I don't have it in my mouth but I was just really concerned that it lives in my saliva from having it on my genitals (I know I have it on my genitals).

saliva is a poor transmitter of herpes. it's not likely that you transmitted hsv1 to your child this way if you do indeed have it.
