. My lesion (when I get it) is high up on my lips its not near the opening of my vagina. Does that mean that the chance of infection is from the location of the normal area which breaks out? Or from my female fluids?
the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource to bookmark to refer to for info like this :)
the risk of transmission on average from a hsv2+ female to a male is 4% over the course of an entire year if the only precaution taken is to avoid sex anytime she has obvious genital symptoms. Throw in daily suppressive therapy and condom use and the risk is reduced to 1%/year.
The location of your lesions is meaningless to be honest. You shed the virus from the area of the lesion when you have one as well as from the entire anogenital area. In between obvious lesions, you aren't shedding only from the area you usually get lesions at - you are shedding from the anogenital area periodically.
the odds of transmission from a one time mostly protected encounter while on suppressive therapy are incredibly small.
