it won't be transmitted through sharing utensils or anything like that.
oral herpes is transmitted through romantic type kisses.
Thanks. I appreciate the wisdom in that. The unspoken says volumes.
Either way can you help answer this question: How long does this virus last in the open? Does it survive on surfaces such as cutlery, and can it be transmitted through kissing?
well first thing you both need to do is seek out type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. it's putting the cart before the horse at this point but what is done is done so you both need to start being educated about who has what and go from there.
visual diagnosis alone is never enough.

I admit we were both visually diagnosed.
In my case, i had all the symptoms from the tingling to the actual break out and sores.
Hers was not a cold sore on her lips. It was right in her mouth, and caused her extreme pain when swallowing.
After being put on Acyclovir, all my symptoms receded after a few days, and i have only ever had one breakout after that.
Her case was only a few weeks ago. She is alright now after the Acyclovir regime.
Please help with my curiousity. Thanks
so she had a cold sore that led to her getting diagnosed as having oral herpes? do I have that right?
when you were diagnosed as having genital herpes, what testing did you have done?
have either of you had herpes igg blood tests to know who has what?

So how long does this virus last in the open? Does it survive on surfaces such as cutlery, and can it be transmitted through kissing?
She should be tested properly by using a type specific igg test.
You having genital herpes and not doing oral sex would mean she didn't get herpes from you. You have to have direct skin to skin contact with an infected person.
Was your girlfriend tested to know her own herpes status prior to you being intimate? If not she may never have known she had HSV. The question would be how was she diagnoised with HSV. If by visual exam they are wrong 1/3 of the time.
