Herpes Transmission

My current girlfriend was diagnosed by her doctor (not an STI clinic) as having herpes. This was after a visual inspection that lasted a few seconds I am told.

This apparent primary outbreak of genital herpes in the genital area occurred a few weeks after we started a sexual relationship. At that time we had only indulged in oral sex. So if she had contracted it from me It must have been via cunnilingus. I have never at any stage had any symptoms of Herpes either oral or genital. I have recently been tested for all STD's (except Herpes) and tests were negative.

From what I have read it does seem that I could be a carrier and have infected her. She has not developed signs of oral herpes much prolonged kissing.

She has just apparently had a recurrence, 10 weeks after the first. Both of these episodes have been accompanied by urine infections.

I am not 100% convinced that she has herpes although I suppose the probability is that she has.

The symptoms of her primary were feeling unwell and quite severe genital pain - plus the urine infection - although she herself did not see any blisters.

I should be grateful of your opinion on this - the likelihood of this being herpes - and of me having caused the infection?

Thank you,

William

statistically, 1 out of every 2-3 of us has hsv1 orally. Only 20-40% of folks with hsv1, get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected though.

At this point, both of you should seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to see who has what at this point.   Your gf only getting a visual diagnosis was bad medicine :(  She needs to pursue a further work up every single time she has symptoms.  Did she have an internal exam when initially diagnosed? did she go for any testing with her recurrence of symptoms recently?
