Herpes Type 2 Oral

I performed oral sex on a person and caught Herpes type 2.  We had no genital to genital contact, just oral.  My symptoms included bumbs in the back of my throat and swollen glands.  I had no bumbs or itching in my genital area.  Does this mean that my Herpes type 2 is oral?  If so, 1) Can it spread to my genitals?  2)  Can I transmit it by kissing? 3) Can I spread it by performing oral sex again? And 4) Is there anyway to know for sure it is oral type 2 and not genital type 2?

It was positive for type 1 the second time, negative for type 2

Your hsv2 igg was still within the falst positive range. That said, testing at 48 days is still far too early and was pretty much a waste of time an dmoney. You'll still have to wait and repeat your test at the 4 month mark.

I went to my doctor about a week ago, which would be 48 days since my last encounter, and I had another HSV test done.  I just got the results and they said I tested positive for type 1 and negative for type 2.  I have a call in to get more information, e.g. brand of test and Igg levels.  How should I interpret the conflicting results?

At this point I recommend retesting at the 4 month mark and see what your hsv2 igg is then.  Should you get a return of your mouth symptoms, see your provider promptly for proper testing of them.

If you've had sex before and were never tested before for herpes, you have no way of knowing ifyour hsv2 igg is + due to contracting it genitally earlier, even if you can't recall obvious genital symptoms. I know, clear as mud.  At this point the important thing is to confirm your hsv2 result and since not enough time passed between the last time you had sex and the blood test, waiting and repeating it at the appropriate time is the next best step.

This is the first herpes test that I have had, it was taken 22 days from the first encounter and 17 from the second (it happened twice, same person).  I have had genital sex before, but not anytime around when this happened.

Your hsv 2 igg is still a very low positive. How long after you had sex did you get it done?

A blood test only tells you what you have, not where you have it.  It would've been most helpful to have gotten the mouth symptoms cultured an dtyped but it's too late now for that.  I certainly would not assume that your oral symptoms were due to herpes just because they showed up soon after having oral sex and now you have a low positive blood test.

Have you ever had a herpes blood test before? Have you had genital sex before?

I got tested and was positive for HSV 2.  It was a blood test, Herpeselect I think.  It showed a result of 1.45 for herpes 2.

assume nothing.

so because you had oral sex and then got symptoms orally you assumed you caught hsv2 orally or have you had some sort of testing done?

I wasn't diagnosed with it, but there was no genital to genital contact and the bumps were in my mouth so I assumed that is what it was.
