Herpes and Angular Cheilitis

Grace,

I have had oral hsv 1 since a child with few recurrent outbreaks.  I was just diagnosed with angular cheilitis - I get small cuts on the side of my mouth which sometimes ooze a clear fluid and crust over.  My question is, when I am asymptomatically shedding, is there more virus at the site of the cuts because the skin is broken?  Could this lead to a greater chance of transmission of Oral Hsv 1?

we have research showing that having dental work done can trigger shedding in the oral area as well as facial procedures.

Graxe,

I have one more question. Would biting hard on your cheek or lip trigger oral shedding?

probably not in those places. more dry  sex that leaves the skin messed up ( you know what I mean? ), zipper incidents etc  also other infections in the genital area can trigger shedding too, in gals bv especially.

Thanks for the quick response. So theoretically would a cut on the hip or thigh trigger genital shedding?

Grace,
I have one follow up question regarding shedding triggers. When you say irritation/trauma can trigger shedding, is this to mean trauma to the mouth (for oral herpes)/penis or anus (for genital herpes) or is it trauma to any area around these mucous membranes (ie: cut on the face or thigh). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would you agree with kdaily's assessment?

Sorry hit post too soon, no because it is a skin to skin, the virus would not live on food or cigarettes

Thanks Grace. I recently shared some food and a cigarette with a friend while I had these cuts.  Do you think i should worry about transmission to them?

yes when the chelitis is reoccuring, it could trigger hsv1 shedding. I'd avoid performing oral on a partner until it's healed.
