Herpes and a hypochondriac boyfriend

I recently exchanged oral sex with my boyfriend. A few days later i got a cold sore i didn't think much of it because I know I have oral hsv1. But when my boyfriend saw my cold sore he freaked out on me because hes a hypochondriac. Its been three weeks since I've seen him and he recently told me he found a bump on his lip, so now he's dying and it's all my falut. He's going to get tested but he's too afraid to kiss me yet alone have sex with me. Is it possible i gave him a cold sore? I would of thought it come sooner if i gave him something. And what kind of precautions can we take if we were to resume having sex?

I could really use a lot of help and information to ease my worries and my boyfriend's. Thank you.
