Herpes and equivocal results: Help!

Hello,

I had a short protected (condom) vaginal intercourse with an escort for 1-2 minutes on 10/22.

For peace of mind, I completed an STD panel on day 12 post exposure (early for HSV 2).

Here are the results for IGG test:

HSV 2 was .92 equivocal.Day 12 post exposure:

DAY 14:  The ESCORT took the same test for HSV 2 and her test was negative.

HSV 2 was 1.05 equivocal.  Day 22 post exposure.

I have no symptoms as of day 26.  I visited an infectious disease doctor.  The doctor said that the results are inconclusive and early.  The doctor physically checked me.  He said most probably I don't have HSV 2.

Here's are my questions:

1)  What are the chances of contacting HSV 2  during a protected short encounter?

2)  Is it possible that the escort tested negative at day 14 and I test equivocal at day 12?

3)  What is equivocal?  Please help.  I read it could be early infection or inconclusive?  Please share you experience.

4)  Am I doomed that my HSV 2 igg results keep climbing ?

5)  Should not I get some symptoms of infection by now?  If stress triggered an outbreak, I been stressed for the past 26 days.  Please help and share you experience and knowledge.

Thank You.

No symptoms is a good sign but your exposure was close to zero risk if you dont shave down there. The risk exists when she has vaginal sores at the time. You anxiety is adding to fueling your concern. People can have unprotected intercouse with existing genital sores many time and still not contract herpes. Its just not the easy.

Hello,

I received the WB package.  Westover Heights clinic does not service Pennsylvania.  How should I proceed from here?  Can I go to a lab then mail the results.  Anyone with any advice please.

I am happy that you do not have hsv 1 or 2!!When did you test with WB? How long would it be post encounter? I am trying to think if my test would be conclusive since I would be right around 10 weeks (10th week) post encounter.

Btw jcornish, have you seen the pictures I posted on my thread? It would help if you looked at it ( I know disgusting) but would give me an idea if it looked like herpes to you.

Not sure where you live, but that makes a big difference.  I had the benefit of being in the Seattle area and being able to go to the STD clinic there where they do the WB.  Not sure how to do it outside of seattle.  Best information is on the westover heights clinic website.  You can read other posts or pay a couple of bucks and ask Terri Warren directly.  She knows the most about it and helps lots of people get it.

Hey, thank you for all of your posts and help during my difficult time.  Wanted to let you know I got my results back from the WB.  All negative!!!!  Both HSV 1 & 2 Negative!!!  I moving on with my life and not putting myself in this position again.  The scary thing is it sounds like the IGG test is accurate most of the time, but when it is wrong it puts people through hell.  I had a very difficult time sorting through this mess.  I hope everything goes well with your results.  I saw you have been trying to help other people on the site.  Feel free to share my situation.

Hi life360,

would you suggest getting a WB for me at this time or is it too early to be conclusive.  Your response is greatly appreciated.

Yes if she had any vaginal sores it would have been painful

Hi Life360,

One more question.  Please bear with me.

If the escort (that tested negative for HSV 2 using the same exam 2 days after me) did have sores at the time of the intercourse, wouldn't be painful for her to have sexual intercourse if sores were present?

Also, I know she is still sexually active as of two months ago.

Just trying to get some peace of mind.  Thank You.

Yes, hair would act as a barrier.

Hi life360,

I am sorry being a pain but you please clarify a point.  You said that if you don’t shave the pubic area then you have less risk (assuming you are using a condom) contracting herpes.  Is this because the virus needs an “entrance” point into the body such as a cut of some sort?

Could you please clarify.
Thank you for everything.

The risk you contacted herpes from a one time protected affair where she did not have any vaginal sores would be close to zero. Your really being overly concerned about this.

Hi Grace,

this is day 48 post exposure.  I haven't had any symptoms/sores/lesions/flu like symptoms or anything else.

If I was exposed to HSV 2, shouldn't I have I have some indications by now?  Could be that some people don't have any symptoms from an initial exposure or everyone will have some type of symptoms.

Please help

HI GDHerpesHelp,

thank you for your response.

Two items you mentioned poked my interest.

My HSV 1 was negative post 12 days <.91.  NO number assigned to it.  I did not repeat HSV1 post day 22.  Does it mean anything?

Please try to answer/clarify this question if you can:

If I was indeed infected with HSV 2 in this encounter then I should have some lesions, itching, burning etc. with 20 days? I do not have any symptoms.
Do all people have lesions and/or burning itching from a first infection?  I mean all.  I don't have anything.  I been checking myself several times a day.

Please if you or life360 can shed some lights on this issue.

This is really stressful.  Let alone, my wife and I trying to conceive via IVF after 10 years of trying. I already came clean with my wife.

Thank you.

Hello,

I saw you post on my thread, so I thought I would share what I have learned, but I am not as good and I don't know as much as the people that post on this site regularly.  Life360 is a very good resource.  I did have  false positive test.  That sucked.  I had a 2.6 IGG 8 days after encounter.  I later learned you can't be positive that fast and not at those high numbers.  The Western Blot test I took confirmed the false positive.  Stress and anxiety really suck and they don't help at all.  The other doctors on the site would tell you not to get tested at all.  Condom use and no symptoms means no testing.  Chances of transmission from someone who has HSV-2 during a single encounter are 1 in 1,000.  With a condom, the chances are even less.  Tingling, burning and general discomfort are not really herpes symptoms without lesions that are most often on the penis especially if you don't shave around your pubic area.  Most people are going to have lesions within 3-7 days. Almost all within 10 days and rare case within 20 days.  You said you did an STD panel.  What was your HSV-1?  If it was negative and this would be a true PRIMARY infection meaning your first HSV infection of any kind, most of the time you would expect symptoms.  There are some people that are asymptomatic, but more rare when primary infection.  Your readings are not really rising.  Every time you test you are doing to have a different number.  Just the way the test works.  It is not counting a specific number.  If you tested again now and your number was significantly higher that would definitely be something to worry about.  You should probably wait at least 2-3 more weeks to have a test that would be around 70 - 80%.  With the escorts neg test results I would think it is almost 100% you are neg.  I know the doctors aren't taking questions on this forum right now, but a great resource if you want a professional opinion would be to go to the westover heights clinic website.  Terri Warren who is an expert in this area still answers questions for a very small fee, I think $20.

The other people that comment on a regular basis know more than me.  I would be interested what Life360 thinks of my post.  I am still dealing with my own stress and anxiety, but it is better now than it was before.  Terri thinks I have a cellular protein in my system that is giving the false positive and she is not sure whether an IGG will ever be good for me again.  I am waiting until 12 weeks to get another Western Blot to confirm my previous neg from a couple of weeks ago.

Stay Positive.

The whole thing was a quick encounter.  I wish I can remember!

Does no symptoms mean good news?
Does her negative test gives me some peace of mind?
Should I ignore the equivocal of .92 (12 days) and 1,05 (22 days) for now?

Once again, thank you for your time.

Your risk boils down to contact. Did your pubic mound area make rubbing grinding contact with hers?

Thank you very much for your response.

1) I do not shave.

5)  You said WHEN symptoms  appear, does it mean that symptoms may never appear and you could be infected.  I am under a lot of stress and read that stress triggers an outbreak.

Also, her test was negative two  weeks after the encounter.  If she was infected would her test show positive or at least equivocal because mine shows at equivocal.

Once again, thank you for your help.
